SEMPHN’s 2020-23 Strategic Plan was developed to provide a clear direction for the organisation to help strengthen our vision, mission and values
2020-23 Strategic Plan
The plan was developed in consultation with the Board, Executive Leadership Team and staff, and sets out four strategic objectives and four performance goals.
Our Story
To support the Plan, SEMPHN established an Organisation Narrative (Our Story) to help simplify our messaging, build staff and stakeholder engagement and improve relationships with service providers and general practices
As our story continues to evolve, we will review our approach to staff and stakeholder engagement
The pandemic gave rise to more engagement across our stakeholder base, including general practice and our service providers, in a range of different ways
Engaging with our stakeholders
With a number of lockdowns throughout the year, our outwardly facing Workforce Development and Pharmacotherapy teams went from on-site engagements to working remotely
Our own COVID Safety Plan was developed in line with State Government directives and all of our teams worked for most of the year, from home.
We stayed committed to supporting our general practice community throughout the year (and beyond) and we developed a series of COVID webinars and then earlier in 2021 a series of information sessions on the vaccine rollout, in addition to our regular newsletters, SMS reminders and education sessions. Our teams also engaged more regularly with our service providers and after the initial impacts of lockdowns, we worked with providers in managing workforce issues and ensuring they had additional supports in place to manage the challenges of pivoting (in most cases) to telehealth and to reaching vulnerable communities in different ways.
Our engagement with the Alfred, Monash and Peninsula hospitals also increased and we have enjoyed working collegially with our colleagues at these organisations. We have also been invited to be part of a number of steering and working groups across State and Commonwealth Health Departments as part of COVID planning. We are looking forward to maintaining these relationships into the future.
Measuring stakeholder satisfaction
We received over 300 responses from general practice staff and allied health providers, giving us benchmark data on which we can base future engagement efforts
As part of our commitment to productive stakeholder relationships with the primary health workforce and our service delivery partners, we conducted our inaugural engagement and satisfaction survey in 2021.
Our Executive reviewed the results of our survey and are working on a plan to improve our results in some areas, including communication with stakeholders and engagement processes during lockdowns.

Primary Health Networks celebrate 5 years
In July 2020, Primary Health Networks across Australia celebrated their five-year anniversary since being established in 2015.
At this time, the organisation was working remotely but used the opportunity to come together virtually and acknowledge the breadth of work and milestones achieved over the past five years with our partners.
We would like to thank the Australian Government, our partners, general practices and our workforce for continuing to work together to achieve our shared vision.
